Meeting of the giants:
Z44 “Athlete” meets Concorde
|
 |
21.08.2003
|
On June 24th, 2003, it broke the sound barrier one last time on its final supersonic flight over the Atlantic and made its last flyby and lap of honor at Baden-Baden Airport, before landing at 12.55 p.m. in front of 20,000 spectators.
That was Concorde, which for many years carried passengers across the Atlantic at breathtaking speed, before finally being transported to its new home, the airport museum in Sinsheim, on July 19th, 2003.
And who had the honor of accompanying it on its last journey?
Our baggage and equipment tractor, the Z44 "Athlete".
This powerful vehicle was not chosen without reason for this special duty: Z44 "Athlete" was accorded this distinction because of its towing capacity of up to 40 metric tons. The vehicle is in the meantime in the 4th generation and its design is continuously being optimized. It is extremely versatile for practically all types of utilization, has a long service life and is absolutely dependable even under extreme conditions just like its big friend the Concorde.
In June we had to take leave of the Concorde, but our "Athlete" is still at home at airports all over the world - with its capacity, power and newly developed COM II engine.
For this reason it will always be a trusty companion for all aircraft. |
