Rofan is heading out to sea! Five of our Diesel tractors are now proving their reliability in the ferry service to the North Frisian islands.
After many years of reliable service at countless airports and industrial facilities, we were able to open up a completely new field of application: Seafaring.
The Wyker Dampfschiffs-Reederei Föhr-Amrum GmbH, a shipping company that has specialized in providing ferry service to the North Frisian islands, came to us with special requirements: In the business of supplying the islands of Föhr and Amrum, an increasing number of detached trailers are being shipped in order to not leave expensive trucks and drivers immobilized for hours. For the job of shunting these sometimes very heavy trailers –both on the pier and on the ferry – there was a need for rugged and powerful tractors that could operate even in the typically harsh weather conditions of the North Sea.
This was an exciting project for our development department: To satisfy the requirements of the new customer, our IndustryMover DD 5000 (known as the ZD6 at the time of this development) was adapted and equipped for this ambitious task.
Five vehicles were delivered. With their diesel drive and a tractive force of 32,000 N, they are powerful enough to move the heaviest loads on board the ferries, even during low tide when the loading ramps are very steep.
We are very happy to be able to once again demonstrate the flexibility of Rofan’s vehicle concepts and design engineers and we wish our new customer "bon voyage!"
